The evil of unipolarity

The current world is unipolar with the global West in its centre and with the United States as its core.

This kind of  unipolarity has geopolitical and ideological sides. Geopolitically is  strategic dominance of the Earth by a North-American hyperpower and the effort of Washington to organize the balance of forces on the planet in such a manner as to be able to rule the whole world in accordance with its own national (imperialistic) interests. It is bad because it deprives other states and nations of their real sovereignty.

When there is only one instance to decide who is right and who is wrong and who should be punished we have a kind of  global dictatorship. I am convinced that it is not acceptable. So we should fight against it. If someone deprives us of our freedom we have to react. And we will. The American Empire should be destroyed. And at one point it will be.

Ideologically the unipolarity is based on Modernist and Post-Modernist values that are openly anti-traditional ones. I share the vision of Rene Guenon and Julius Evola who considered Modernity and its ideological basis ( individualism, liberal democracy, capitalism, comfortism and so on) to be the cause of the future catastrophe of  humanity and global domination of Western attitudes as the reason of final degradation of the Earth. The West is approaching  its end and we should not let it push all the rest of us with it into the abyss.

Spiritually globalization is the creation of The Grand Parody, the kingdom of the Antichrist. And the United States is in the center of its expansion. American values pretend to be “universal” ones. It is a new form of ideological aggression against the multiplicity of  cultures and traditions still existing in  other parts of the world. I am resolutely against Western values that are essential Modernist and Post-Modernist ones and promulgated by the United States by force or by obtrusion (Afghanistan, Iraq, now Libya, tomorrow Syria and Iran) .

I. Prologue
Having been chosen--whether as devil's advocate or sacrificial lamb, I am not sure--to lead off this discussion on the question, "Was Civilization a Mistake?", I would like to offer some preliminary thoughts.

From the viewpoint of any non-civilized person, this consideration would appear to be steeped in irony. Here we are, after all, some of the most civilized people on the planet, discussing in the most civilized way imaginable whether civilization itself might be an error. Most of our fellow civilians would likely find our discussion, in addition to being ironic, also disturbing and pointless: after all, what person who has grown up with cars, electricity, and television would relish the idea of living without a house, and of surviving only on wild foods?

We will look at the myth of Ragnarok, not as an old story of mere historic interest but as the symbol of basic truth. We do not intend to delve into the action of the tale, nor to consider the activities of the various protagonists. (That may be done, for example, by reading chapter 32 of The Norse Myths: Gods of the Vikings by Kevin Crossley-Holland.) Instead we will examine its meaning in a wider context.

The story of Ragnarok is an example of the archetypal theme which has been categorised as the myth of the eternal return. Roughly speaking, this mythic theme symbolises the various recurring cycles of nature, the return of the sun every morning, the resurgent life of spring after the seeming death of winter.

Silence used to be, to varying degrees, a means of isolation. Now it is the absence of silence that works to render today's world empty and isolating. Its reserves have been invaded and depleted. The Machine marches globally forward and silence is the dwindling place where noise has not yet penetrated.

Civilization is a conspiracy of noise, designed to cover up the uncomfortable silences. The silence-honoring Wittgenstein understood the loss of our relationship with it. The unsilent present is a time of evaporating attention spans, erosion of critical thinking, and a lessened capacity for deeply felt experiences. Silence, like darkness, is hard to come by; but mind and spirit need its sustenance.

Certainly there are many and varied sides to silence. There are imposed or voluntary silences of fear, grief, conformity, complicity (e.g. the AIDS-awareness "Silence=Death" formulation), which are often interrelated states. And nature has been progressively silenced, as documented in Rachel Carson's prophetic Silent Spring. Nature cannot be definitively silenced, however, which perhaps goes a long way in explaining why some feel it must be destroyed. "There has been a silencing of nature, including our own nature," concluded Heidegger,[1] and we need to let this silence, as silence, speak. It still does so often, after all, speak louder than words.

Paradise: A Lost Global Civilisation 

Standard views of human history leave little room for a lost paradise. But it seems that each year brings fresh evidence suggesting that our knowledge of the ancient human past is sketchy at best. For example, the recent discovery of a carved bone flute in a Slovenian cave, dated (by current estimates) at between 43,000 and 82,000 years old, suggests that humans have had music – and probably language and art as well – for a very long time indeed. What were people thinking and doing for all those millennia?
